WILLIAMSON COUNTY — A 28-year-old Marion woman involved in a crash that killed 57-year-old Terry Rawson of Sesser last November in Williamson County won’t be driving for at least the next year.

Court records show that Brittany Lane was convicted Wednesday following a bench trial for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and following too close to a vehicle.

Lane was driving on Stotlar Road near Reed Cemetery Road when she rear-ended Rawson on his motorcycle. Rawson suffered fatal injuries and died.

Lane was also fined $1,000, charged her court costs and lost all driving privileges for a year. The Williamson County State’s Attorney’s office says they plan to petition the Secretary of State’s Office to have the revocation extended for two more years.

Officials say weather did not play a factor in the crash, and Lane was driving under the speed limit when the crash happened. During an investigation into the crash, it was thought that Lane may have been distracted when the crash happened.

But investigators didn’t want to speculate if that was the case. They also say there was no record of her using a cell phone when the crash happened.
