SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The organization leading an effort to renovate the Illinois governor’s mansion is inviting design firms to submit credentials to be considered for the job.

The Illinois Executive Mansion Association says it will review qualifications and shortlist no more than 10 firms for the project.

Jeff Evans is the owner of a Springfield architectural and construction management firm and is volunteering with the association. He says the group is committed to finding “the highest quality and most experienced team.”

The association estimates renovating the 160-year-old home will cost between $8 million and $12 million and take two years.

The mansion is the third-oldest governor’s residence in the country. But it’s fallen into disrepair in recent years, with a flooded basement and peeling paint.

Work is underway to replace a leaky roof.
