JEFERSON COUNTY — Two people were in the Jefferson County Jail Saturday morning, after a Friday traffic stop in Mt. Vernon reportedly revealed a mobile meth lab in their vehicle.

Around 2 p.m., Friday, detectives from the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit stopped a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Chad J. Davis in the 1000 block of South 12th in Mt. Vernon.

During the stop detectives reportedly located an active methamphetamine lab, meth, and related materials in the vehicle. Officers subsequently took Davis and his passenger, 38-year-old Jennifer N. Craig into custody. They were taken to the Jefferson County Jail where they remain awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.

South 12th street was closed for a short period of time as the narcotics detectives, Mt Vernon Fire Department and Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team secured the lab.

Davis was charged with Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Materials and Possession of Drug Equipment.

Craig, who is also on parole in Illinois, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Deliver, Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Materials, and Possession of Drug Equipment.
