Paul V. and Shirley R. Sims

TRENTON — Paul V. Sims, 91, of Trenton, died at his residence on his 68th wedding anniversary Thursday, August 27, 2015. He married Shirley Poston August 27, 1947, in Centerville.

Paul was born November 1, 1923, in East St. Louis to Frank and Louise (Christman) Sims, and they preceded him in death. He was also preceded by three brothers.

Paul was a retired lineman with Illinois Power, an Army Veteran of WWII, enjoyed fly fishing and he started the Cub Scout’s Pack 39 in Trenton. He was a member of New Life Christian Center in Trenton, life member and past commander of the Trenton VFW Post 7983, 67 years with IBEW Local 309 in Collinsville.

Shirley R. Sims, 85, of Trenton died Sunday, August 30, 2014, at her residence.

She was born April 3, 1930, in Centerville to Virgil and Adele (Schaub) Poston, and they preceded her in death.

She married Paul Sims, August 27, 1947, in Centerville, and he preceded her in death August 27, 2015.

Shirley was a homemaker and member of New Life Christian Center in Trenton, and a past member of VFW Auxiliary in Trenton. She enjoyed antiquing and made and sold antique jewelry.

Surviving are their sons David Sims and wife Michelle, of Trenton, Thomas Sims, of Trenton, Michael Sims and wife Angel, of Bondville, and Daniel Sims and wife Cindy, of Trenton; grandchildren Rebecca Bugger and husband Todd, Andrew Sims and wife Sarah, Abigail Hull and husband Brandon, Katie Sims, Kole Sims, Candis Doty and husband Kevin, and Bryan Sims and wife Jenna; nine great-grandchildren; and Shirley’s brothers George “Sonny” Poston, Elva McCoy, William Poston, Jim Poston, Bonnie Walker, Virgil “Ken Poston.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at New Life Christian Center in Trenton, with Rev. Robert Wutzler officiating. Interment will follow in Trenton Cemetery, with full military honors accorded for Mr. Sims.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, August 31, at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton and from 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday, at New Life Christian Center in Trenton.

Trenton VFW members will hold services at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society and will be received at the funeral home.
