MARION COUNTY — The jury trial of a 23-year-old Salem woman charged with murdering her infant daughter has been reset until after the first of the year, with defense counsel also seeking to have the trial moved out of Marion County.

Christina Thomason was arrested in late March after admitting to authorities during an interview that she couldn’t get her 3-month-old daughter Aribella to stop crying, so she covered the baby with multiple blankets and left to take a shower.

She said she returned about an hour later to find that her child was not breathing, at which time she called 911.

Thomason has pleaded not guilty to the two counts First Degree Murder filed against her for the death of Aribella. She is held in the Marion County Jail with bail set at $1 million.

Her court appointed attorney Matt Chancey filed a motion last month seeking to have the trial moved out of Marion County. In April Chancey informed the court he had discovered an estimated $18,000 life insurance policy and trust in Thomason’s name.

Chancey told Chief Judge Michael McHaney that he didn’t want to withdraw from the case, but noted the money could potentially be used to allow Thomason to hire private counsel. McHaney took no action, but said Thomason could be asked to reimburse the court after the case concluded.

Thomason is next due in court December 8, for a pre-trial hearing. Her jury trial is now scheduled for January 19, 2016, before Marion County Resident Judge Mark Stedelin.
