CENTRALIA — An early Monday morning house fire in Centralia is being investigated as possible arson.

Centralia City firefighters were dispatched around 1:10 a.m., after a passerby noticed a flame through the window of the home in the 1200 block of South Cherry, and called 9-1-1.

Firefighters say no one was home at the Christina Hansford residence, but as they arrived on the scene they found multiple fires set in various items around the home.

They say an accelerant was apparently used to set the fires, but firefighters were able to put out the flames before they could spread to the structure itself.

A person at the scene was ultimately taken in for questioning and the State Deputy Fire Marshall responded to complete the investigation. Arson is suspected, and no injuries were reported.

All available firefighters responded to fight the fire. They returned to the firehouse after about an hour.
