JEFFERSON COUNTY — Sheriff’s deputies responded late one night last week to a report of a man and a 2-year-old child in a diaper walking down Interstate 64 in Jefferson County. Deputies arrived to discover the man allegedly was severely intoxicated.

Reports say deputies arrived around 11 p.m. to find 22-year-old Daniel Gallardo, of Yakima, Washington, reportedly admitted to deputies he used methamphetamine, telling them his wife was at the I-64 Rest Area. Deputies said Gallardo did not even realize the child was with him.

The Department of Children and Family Services was immediately contacted and Gallardo and the child were both taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. The female was located at the Rest Area. She has been identified as 18-year-old Hannah Snyder, of Raleigh, North Carolina. She was also taken to the sheriff’s office.

Following an investigation by DCFS, the 2-year-old child was taken into protective custody. Test results on the child came back positive for meth.

Gallardo and Snyder were taken into custody for alleged Meth Related Child Endangerment, and Reckless Conduct. They remain in the Jefferson County Jail, with bail set at $20,000 each.
