CHICAGO (AP) — A physician from Chicago’s western suburbs has pleaded guilty to federal charges he cost Medicare $4 million by approving unnecessary treatments.
Federal prosecutors say Dr. Arthur Davida of Bloomingdale-based Home Care Physicians Inc. entered the plea Tuesday in Chicago. They say he certified patients as being homebound even though they weren’t, allowing Medicare to receive bills from home-health agencies for treatments that weren’t medically necessary.
A plea agreement states that Davida certified the patients as confined to their homes because he was worried the agencies would stop sending him referrals.
The 62-year-old Bloomingdale man is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 16. He faces up to ten years in prison for the health care fraud charge.
