JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 27-year-old Mt. Vernon man wanted in connection with a July 1, shooting in Mt. Vernon has turned himself in to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

Calvin Webster turned himself in Tuesday, says Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Deichman.

The shooting resulted from a dispute in the 1000 block of South 25th that sent one person to the hospital. Webster is alleged to have fired the shot.

Police had been searching for Webster since the incident nearly two months ago. Police believe he had been hiding in the St. Louis area.

The man Webster is accused of shooting was treated and released from an area hospital.

Webster is facing a felony charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

According to online court records, he was charged in Jefferson County Court in 2014 with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and Class 3 felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Those charges were dismissed against him in March.
