URBANA, Ill. (AP) — University of Illinois Comptroller Walter Knorr says the state budget stalemate means the school won’t be able to put together a budget for the current school year any time soon.

Knorr told university trustees at a meeting Thursday that the school will operate under the continuing state appropriation it has been using since the fiscal year started in July.

Gov. Bruce Rauner and the Democrat-controlled General Assembly have not agreed on a state budget.

Knorr also told trustees that because of the budget situation Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger’s office is not processing bills from the university for money it’s owed by the state.

That money is primarily payroll and the total stands at about $160 million. But Knorr said that figure will grow by about $75 million a month.
