Ruth Ellen Perry

SANDOVAL — Ruth Ellen Perry, 69, of Sandoval, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Odin Healthcare Center.

She was born September 7, 1946, the daughter of Peter Edward and Catherine (Sitton) Thomas in Sandoval.  She married picture-pubRobert “Bob” Edward Perry on August 22, 1970, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval.

Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” Perry of Sandoval; son Robert “Rob” Perry, Jr. and wife Tricia of Cary, N.C.; daughters Angela Perry-Arellano and husband Javier of Lafayette, Ind., and Casie Pezzarossi and husband Luigi of Roselle, Illinois; grandchildren Erin and Ethan Perry, Noah, Thomas, and Valerio Arellano, and Isabella Pezzarossi; siblings Edith Leffew of Sandoval, Rose Mary Jourdan of Sandoval, Peter Edward Thomas, Jr. of Prosser, Wa., and Charlotte Carson and husband George of Sandoval; brother-in-law Roy Bowen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Bill Thomas and wife Ruth, Agnes Farthing and husband Ralph, Margie Bowen, Rita Lusch, and Tommy Joe Thomas.

Mrs. Perry was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She began her teaching career at Greenview School District. She then was a teacher for two years in Cahokia, one year in Odin, nine in Patoka, and then retired after thirteen years in Sandoval teaching Math. She enjoyed many forms of needlework, including crocheting, knitting, and embroidery. Ruth was a member of the Sandoval Women’s Club, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, and the Ladies St. Monica Alter Sodality. She loved her children and grandchildren. She put her family first in her priorities and insisted on them having the best education.

Catholic Mass of burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Patrick Peter officiating. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of donor’s choice.
