MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the death of a Salem teen as an apparent suicide.

Coroner Troy Cannon says the body of 16-year-old Shana Graves was discovered at her home on Wednesday morning.

Shana was a student at Salem Community High School.

Cannon reports this brings this year’s total suicides to 12, twice the amount for all of last year and for the data average for the past five years. At this point in the year, Marion County would normally have 4 to 5 suicides.

The Rogers/Atkins Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the Graves family with arrangements.
