BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A fundraiser is planned for a 9-year-old southwestern Illinois stabbing victim whose mother was killed in the attack.

Nicolas Day continues to recover after he was stabbed three times in the neck and reportedly witnessed his mother’s death at her Swansea apartment.

Alvin Harris Jr. of East St. Louis is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 29 death of 38-year-old Sharetta Day, his former girlfriend.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a previously planned food truck fundraiser in Belleville’s west end will also help raise money for Nicolas.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, outside Althoff Catholic High School.
