Sheriff’s Association urges warnings for expired vehicle tags, as budget woes continue

SPRINGFIELD — The President of the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association, LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton, is asking local and state law enforcement to use their discretion and issue warnings rather than citations for expired license plate stickers.

illinois-license-plateThe news release comes as Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced they would not be sending vehicle sticker renewal forms in the mail due to the ongoing budget impasse in Springfield.

Sheriff Templeton suggested if the sticker has not been expired for more than 60 days, “we should be advising our citizens that they need to address the problem.”

He says it’s an opportunity to assist our citizens rather than penalize them for something beyond their control.
