MT. VERNON — An incident Friday afternoon has landed two individuals behind bars. The Mt. Vernon Police Department received a report from a caller that a passenger in an automobile had pointed a gun at him. That led to an ensuing traffic stop of a car driven by 22-year-old Samantha Rainey of Mt. Vernon.
During the traffic stop, a search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a pill bottle containing cannabis and a glass smoking device.
Additional amounts of cannabis were discovered as well as a 9 millimeter gun, pellet guns, and a loaded magazine for the 9 mm.
Rainey and her passenger, 23-year-old Cameron Dunn of Mt. Vernon, were both arrested without incident.
Rainey was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, armed violence, possession of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dunn was charged with aggravated assault with use of a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, and possession of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis.
Both were awaiting bail to be set and are jailed in the Jefferson County Justice Center.
