Bud graduated from Kinmundy High School in 1944 and was drafted into the army in November 1944. He spent his years of service in Japan where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant in 19 months. He entered college at the Univ. of Illinois in the fall of 1947 and with the help of the GI Bill earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1951.
Bud owned and managed VIG Fertilizer Co. of Kinmundy, and Greendale Grain and Fertilizer Co. of Xenia. Ill. Bud was a charter member of the Kinmundy Lions Club, and worked with the other Lions Club members on the consolidation of the country schools into the Kinmundy-Alma School District. He spent many hours going to all the country schools and encouraging them to support a new school system. When the measure passed he was elected President of the new school board. Additions and new buildings were needed for the new school district. His proudest achievement in that area was the design of the new Pit style gymnasium that so many fans enjoyed for decades. His brother Quentin, and sons all played basketball in that gym. Bud served 23 years on the Kinmundy City Council.
He was a volunteer firefighter for many years, and along with several other dedicated members was instrumental in the formation of the Kinmundy-Alma Fire District in 1955.
