CLINTON COUNTY — One person is dead following a three-car crash Tuesday in Clinton County that resulted in a long stretch of Interstate 64 being closed for hours Tuesday.

According to Clinton County Coroner Philip Moss, one person died in the crash involving three vehicles at the 34 mile marker on I-64 near the Damiansville exit.

No further information regarding other possible injuries was available and the identity of the deceased was not being released as next of kin had not yet been notified.

Illinois State Police report the crash occurred around 11:02 a.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of the interstate and caused 14 miles of I-64 to be closed while crews responded to the scene.

Traffic was diverted to Illinois 161 and Illinois 160/177 between New Baden at the 27 mile marker and Okawville at the 41 mile marker. ISP anticipated the interstate would be opened back up by 6 p.m.
