CHICAGO (AP) — Former governor Jim Edgar says Governor Rauner is taking the wrong path to achieving the reform measures he’s linked to a budget deal.

Edgar told political science students at the University of Illinois-Chicago that government is failing and that the budget can’t be held hostage for other issues.

He said some of Rauner’s proposals are good, but he said he learned that as governor, you can’t do everything you want to do at one time.

Edgar says he has advised Rauner to focus on the budget several times.

And the woman Rauner appointed to pay Illinois’ bills is also calling on the governor get down to the business of finalizing a state budget.

Comptroller Leslie Munger used a Quad Cities stop over the weekend to say the governor needs to stop pushing for
