CENTRALIA — Both drivers involved in a head-on collision Thursday evening in Centralia were transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment for their injuries, with one driver only going to the Centralia hospital long enough to board an air evac flight to St. Louis.

According to Illinois State Police spokesperson Master Sergeant Chad Smith, 20-year-old Jessica Brooke Dobyns was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy eastbound on Illinois Route 161, approximately one quarter mile west of Moonglow Road as 57-year-old Dwight O. Terry was driving a 2013 Ford westbound, in the opposite lane at the same location.

Smith said that Dobyns swerved in order not to hit a vehicle in front of her that was turning into a driveway.

Dobyns crossed the centerline, into the westbound lane and struck Terry’s vehicle head-on.

Terry was transported from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital, while Dobyns was transported to Barnes Hospital, in St. Louis, Mo., for treatment of her injuries.

Dobyns was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Wear Seat Belt.
