IUKA — The Illinois Secretary of State Police Bomb Squad responded to a home in Iuka Tuesday afternoon, after receiving a call from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office regarding explosives at a home in the center of town.

According to Secretary of State Spokesman Henry Haupt, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Bomb Squad around 12:45 p.m. regarding the situation.

Reports indicate commercial grade explosives were discovered in a rental home in Iuka, which resulted in the two agencies being called to the scene.

One person was reportedly taken into custody Tuesday afternoon for questioning by the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The sheriff’s office confirmed just before 2 p.m. that deputies were on scene at the Iuka home and that the situation was under control.

However, safety concerns forced the Iuka Grade School town bus to not run Tuesday afternoon and parents were required to pick up students who normally would ride the bus along the Iuka Road inside the village at school.
