SANDOVAL — Sandoval firefighters responded around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday to a call for a structure fire in the 1500 block Bethel Road. The caller informed dispatch that he had just pulled up to the residence and his home was on fire.

Upon their arrival, firefighters reported the west side of the home was fully engulfed and called for mutual aid support from Centralia Fire Protection for a tanker truck. Firefighers from Odin, Centralia Fire District, and Centralia Fire Department provided Sandoval with mutual aid at the scene, while Patoka and Salem firefighters were called in to stand by for Sandoval and Odin. Tanker trucks from the agencies were used to shuttle water due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area.

Firefighters returned to the Sandoval fire station around 8:30 p.m. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no reports of injuries. The home, however, and its contents appear to be a total loss.
