SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois lawmakers are set to convene in Springfield to deal with another issue spawned by the budget impasse.

Legislation restoring funding to a child care assistance program could come up during Tuesday’s session.

Gov. Bruce Rauner announced Monday he’s reversing course on the issue and easing restrictions put in place during the summer on who qualifies. He says pending legislation is too costly. But advocates and some Democrats say they want a long term guarantee.

Rauner has also reached an agreement with labor and business groups on changes to unemployment insurance. The proposal is on the agenda of House and Senate committees.

The first-term Republican governor and the Democrats who control the Legislature have been at an impasse over the fiscal year budget.
