CHICAGO (AP) – Gov. Bruce Rauner’s administration is reviewing a bill aimed at reopening the Illinois State Museum after the first-term Republican ordered the closure to save money during the budget impasse.

Lawmakers approved the bill with bipartisan support this week. It requires Illinois to keep open the museum and satellite locations, including in Dickson Mounds, Lockport and the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago.

Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly says it’s under review.

Museum doors have been closed to the public since Oct. 1. However, workers remain on the payroll with a pending legal challenge to the closure in the courts.

The closure has put the museum’s national accreditation at risk.

Rauner and the Democrats controlling the Legislature remain at odds over a July 1 fiscal year budget.
