WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A defense attorney says the case should be dismissed against an Illinois woman accused of falsely setting off a manhunt for suspects in the death of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz.

Authorities later said Gliniewicz staged his suicide to look like a homicide.

Kristin Kiefer’s attorney Gal Pissetzky filed a motion Tuesday seeking police documents in the Gliniewicz’s death. Pissetzky claims the files relate to Kiefer. He says the 31-year-old from Vernon Hills didn’t urge police to escalate the search for three men initially sought in Gliniewicz’s death.

The Daily Herald reports that Kiefer is charged with filing a false police report and obstructing justice.

Pissetzky argues that other people weren’t charged after giving information to police that turned out to be wrong.
