FAYETTE COUNTY — A 25-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced Wednesday in Fayette County Court to prison, after he pleaded guilty to a Class 4 felony charge for possession of a controlled substance.

Justin Siebert was originally charged with the felony charge, as well as with two misdemeanor charges for endangering the life of a child, stemming from a driving under the influence incident.

In addition to the criminal charges, he faced a DUI, to which he pleaded guilty and received 24 months court supervision. Bail in the felony case will be applied to fines and fees in both convictions.

Siebert had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges following his March arrest, and was released on furlough in June to attend drug rehab, which he reportedly completed in July. However, in August he tested positive for drugs, his $2,000 bond revoked, and he was returned to the Fayette County Jail.

In September he again requested furlough to attend drug rehab, but that request was denied and he was scheduled for a jury trial for next week.

During a Wednesday pre-trial hearing Siebert entered into a plea agreement with the state, in which he pleaded guilty to the felony charge, with the two misdemeanors being dismissed. He was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, with credit for time served in the county jail, will have to serve one-year mandatory supervised release and pay court costs.
