CHICAGO (AP) — Marijuana-friendly doctors in states with similar medical cannabis laws face starkly different treatment by government regulators. When it comes to oversight of doctors, enforcement practices vary in the 23 states allowing medical cannabis. How governments oversee pot doctors has become an issue, even in more tolerant states such as California and Colorado.

Illinois takes a tough approach. Doctor Bodo Schneider may get his license revoked in a medical board case getting underway Tuesday. He’s the third Illinois physician to face punishment related to medical marijuana in a state where legal sales started this month.

On the other hand, New Jersey has taken no disciplinary action against any doctors related to medical marijuana since sales started three years ago. Not even against one gynecologist who markets himself on a “DrMarijuanaNJ.com” website.
