JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 34-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced today in Jefferson County Court to the Illinois Department of Corrections, after he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of possessing narcotics.

Carlos Lewis was sentenced to 2-years in prison, with credit for 104 days served, after he pleaded guilty to Class 3 felony possession of narcotics, in exchange for a Class 1 felony charges of manufacture with the intent to deliver between 1-15 grams of heroin and manufacture with the intent to deliver between 1-15 grams of cocaine being dismissed.

Lewis was arrested in August after the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High Risk Team executed a search warrant at a home on Casey Street in Mt. Vernon, and the team recovered crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis, digital scales, packaging materials, and United States currency in their search of the home.

In a separate case, Lewis pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm, in exchange for a Class 2 felony charge of aggravated domestic battery including strangling being dismissed. He was sentenced to 24 months court supervision in that case.
