MOUNT VERNON — The Drury Inn & Suites in Mt. Vernon was evacuated Wednesday after a small fire was discovered around 10:45 a.m.
According to reports, the fire was contained to a Sixth Floor room, and is believed to have started on a bed-side night stand. While someone was staying in the room, they were not there at the time of the fire.
Approximately 50 people were evacuated from the hotel as a precaution, with one hotel employee suffering injuries and being taken to Good Samaritan Regional Hospital.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Firefighters returned to the station around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mt. Vernon Police Department and Litton Ambulance provided assistance at the scene.
