MOUNT VERNON — Beginning Wednesday evening at 10 p.m., the Illinois Department of Transportation will be removing an overhead sign truss on Interstate 57 near exit 92 in Mt. Vernon.
The right lane of northbound I-57 will be closed from 10 p.m. this evening until 5 a.m. Friday morning.  Two short complete closures will occur between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the removal of the overhead span and the west end support.  Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the construction site as quickly as possible.
In other road closure news, the City of Mt. Vernon Engineering Department has announced that they will be closing N. 42nd Street from Victoria Avenue to Cumberland Pike (Chesterfield Village Entrance) on Monday December 7th.
This closure is expected to last several weeks.  Residents of Woodglen Acres Subdivision and Chesterfield Village will need to go north on 42nd Street to exit their housing developments.
Motorists are encouraged to use Shiloh Drive and N. 27th Street as alternate routes during road closures.  Properties along N. 42nd Street will be accessible from the north at all times.
