CARBONDALE — Two men died from injuries received after being hit by a vehicle as they were walking Saturday night in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say around 8:25, police responded to the area of East Main and the intersection with Reeds Station Road in reference to a traffic accident.

When officers arrived, they learned that a vehicle going west on East Main struck two pedestrians as they entered the roadway from the north just west of the intersection.

The men, both 18-year-old were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of life threatening injuries.

One of the men was pronounced dead after passing away from his injuries at the hospital.

The other man was flown to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for treatment and passed away from his injuries early Sunday morning.

The driver of the vehicle, a 48-year-old man, was not injured. Police have not issued any citations at this time. Anyone with information about this incident should call Carbondale Police at 457-3200.
