CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois legislative leaders say they made minor progress during a meeting on the state budget stalemate, including agreeing to try again to overhaul state pensions.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, GOP leaders Sen. Christine Radogno and Rep. Jim Durkin and Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton met Tuesday afternoon in Chicago.

It was the second group meeting since Illinois entered the July 1 fiscal year without a spending plan.

Madigan called it a “good meeting.”

Madigan, Radogno and Durkin say all leaders agreed their staffs will meet to try to work out a new plan to address Illinois’ multibillion-dollar unfunded pension liability. The Illinois Supreme Court threw out a previous plan that lawmakers said would save the state billions in contributions.

The leaders agreed to meet again next week.
