FRANKLIN COUNTY — The Mine Safety and Health Administration has released preliminary information into how a 20-year-old Marion man died in that fatal accident Tuesday night at M-Class Mine in Macedonia.

MSHA spokesperson Amy Louviere says Tyler D. Rath was transporting a trailer loaded with longwall face conveyor chain into the mine via a slope entry.

The trailer traveled over the tractor in which Rath was operating, striking the operator’s compartment.

A field office supervisor and accident investigator from MSHA was called to the site to begin an investigation after being notified about the accident.

Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler says Rath was pulled out of the mine around 11:30 and was pronounced dead. An autopsy will take place today.

Rath leaves behind a wife, a two-year-old and a son born six days ago.
