SPRINGFIELD — Let the feats of strength begin! Well, they can begin December 21 in the rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Springfield, when a more than 6-feet tall Festivus Pole is erected.

Those familiar with Seinfeild and the tradition of “A Festivus for the Rest of us!” will remember the traditional Festivus Pole is an unadorned aluminum pole.

This year’s pole, however, is a 6-feet 6-inches tall rainbow colored Gay Pride pole painted with purple-glitter and topped with an 8-inch disco ball. The pole is being erected by the Humanity Fund.

Seinfeld fans may remember character George Costanza started a charity called the “Human Fund.” While Costanza’s fund was a fake, the Humanity Fund is an advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and promoting freedom of speech and religion.

The pole is allowed to remain in the rotunda through December 28, but when it comes time for the airing of grievances, the Secretary of State will be limiting the number of people allowed inside the building.
