CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — The Board of Trustees at Southern Illinois University is responding to protesters with promises it will review campus policy on sexual assault investigations and support for accusers.

A group of about 40 protesters marched across campus Wednesday to the building where trustees were holding a public work session ahead of Thursday’s board meeting. Activists say there’s a lack of transparency in investigations and that abuse allegations have not been taken seriously.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that at a news conference Thursday, SIU system President Randy Dunn and board Vice Chairwoman Donna Manering promised the board would take action.

Manering says she is sure they’ll have ideas and suggestions “on how to move forward.”
