CENTRALIA — A strange stop Sunday by Centralia police resulted in the seizure of nearly $15,000 in cash, after an officer was advised of a suspicious man on a bicycle.

According to Police Chief Doug Krutsinger,an officer was in the area of Sixth and Maple streets looking for a wanted subject, when he was advised of a suspicious male riding a bicycle in a hurry southbound on Locust Street.

The subject reportedly threw something over a fence, but when stopped was allegedly found in possession of a crack pipe.

A search of the man’s belongings reportedly revealed a large amount of cash wrapped in underwear. Three bundles of cash were recovered, one containing $11,910, another containing $1,765, and another containing $800. The man reportedly told the officer the cash was his life savings, but the cash reportedly smelled of cannabis.

The matter remains under investigation. Krutsinger said he isn’t sure what will happen to the cash.
