EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A plan for more than $3.5 million in electrical upgrades at Southern Illinois University’s Edwardsville campus has been given the green light.

The (Alton) Telegraph reports that SIU’s board of trustees approved a contract for the work during a meeting last Thursday at the Carbondale campus.

The contract is with the Guarantee Electrical Co., of Granite City, to complete replacement and repairs to the electric distribution system at SIUE.

The project, among other things, is meant to improve the electrical system’s reliability.

It’s the second phase of an $11-million plan that was approved two years ago. The work should be finished during the summer of next year.
