WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — A professor at a suburban Chicago Christian college who was placed on leave after wearing a headscarf and saying Christians and Muslims worship the same God says she will fight to keep her job.

Larycia Hawkins is a Christian who teaches political science at Wheaton College, a private evangelical school west of Chicago.

The college said last week it placed Hawkins on administrative leave because she noted similarities between Christianity and Islam on social media.

Hawkins later said she was seeking reconciliation with the college. But The Chicago Tribune reports that both sides said Tuesday talks had broken down.

Hawkins says the college offered to let her teach next fall but as part of its proposal would revoke her tenure for at least two years.

Hawkins says she has tenure and “I have to fight for that.”
