SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The daughter of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King will speak in Springfield in February.

The Abraham Lincoln Association says Bernice A. King will speak at the group’s banquet Feb. 12. She will accept the association’s Spirit of Lincoln Award on behalf of her parents. The group says her speech will be titled “Lincoln, King and the Civil Rights Movement.”

Bernice King is head of The King Center, which her mother created in 1968 to honor the slain civil rights leader.

The banquet will be held to mark Lincoln’s 207th birthday. Other events include a symposium Feb. 11 and 12 with events at the Old State Capitol and Lincoln Home Visitors Center.
