JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 26-year-old Mount Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail, accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13.

Cody Richardson was arrested at Wednesday night for alleged predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman, as of Thursday the investigation was ongoing and the charges against Richardson were still preliminary.

Mt. Vernon Police Department reports say officers responded to an initial call Wednesday afternoon of possible child sexual abuse, after an alleged child victim reportedly told an adult of the incident..

During a probable cause hearing Thursday, Judge Jerry Crisel set Richardson’s bail at $200,000; with special conditions of release that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 if he posts bond.
