URBANA, Ill. (AP) — Officials say that about 1,750 union employees at the University of Illinois who ratified new contracts will have to wait two weeks for negotiated back pay.

Urbana-Champaign campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler tells The (Champaign) News-Gazette that the school hopes to have the money routed by the end of this week or early next week. She says the funds will be provided on Feb. 24 paychecks. The university had said the money would be paid Feb. 10.

The employees are members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union. They approved new three-year agreements in December that included a 2.5 percent pay raise retroactive to Aug. 31. The back pay amounts to about $1,000 for the office workers, farm workers, library staff, child-care staff and other employees.
