LITCHFIELD — According to the Illinois State Police, approximately one pound of methamphetamine headed from Mexico to northern Illinois was intercepted by authorities on Interstate 55 near Litchfield.

An ISP sergeant stopped a vehicle on the interstate Monday for an alleged traffic violation. Due to signs of criminal activity, the trooper requested an ISP K-9 Unit to respond to the scene.

An ISP Canine Unit and an additional ISP trooper arrived on scene and the K-9 gave a positive alert on the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, the motorist was allegedly found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and approximately one-pound of meth.

The case remains under investigation and charges are pending.
