According to Illinois State Trooper Calvin Dye Jr., an IDOT employee was struck by a vehicle while helping a motorist on the eastbound interstate 64 exit to Illinois 111 on Wednesday

Both men, he said, remained in serious but stable condition Wednesday evening.

The IDOT worker, a 52-year-old man from Belleville, and the 39-year-old motorist he was helping of East St. Louis, were standing near a Cahokia Towing tow truck when the crash occurred.

The two men were standing together as the tow was completed, Dye said, when a 21-year-old Belleville woman struck them with a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier.

Dye said the woman was being cooperative, but he expected her to be cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Dye blamed the weather and speed as the cause of the crash.
