PEKIN, Ill. (AP) — Police in central Illinois say a bomb exploded on a bridge over the Illinois River that leads into downtown Pekin.

Police spokesman Mike Eeten says it caused no injuries or damage to the Pekin Bridge.

He says the device detonated Friday as a witness got close to it.

He says police are searching for two people suspected of planting the bomb on the west side of the bridge, across the river from downtown.

He tells the Pekin Daily Times that a bomb-sniffing dog did not find any other explosive devices.

The FBI and the Illinois State Police were taking part in the investigation.
