EAST ST. LOUIS — A 31-year-old man from Madison has been sentenced in federal court to more than seven years in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to James L. Porter, acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.

Isaac Lawrence was sentenced to 92 months’ in federal prison, 3 years’ supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $500, following his November 2015 guilty plea.

The charges relate to incidents that occurred in March, 2015, when Lawrence and a co-defendant traveled to California to buy methamphetamine; they then mailed the methamphetamine to East St. Louis, Illinois.

Lawrence was arrested after U.S. Postal Inspectors became suspicious of the package and obtained a warrant to search the package, in which they found approximately 235 grams of methamphetamine.

The case was investigated by members of the Postal Inspection Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
