Aubree L. Hammer is wanted on a Class X felony charge of aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13 resulting in great bodily harm or permanent disability. Hammer’s bail has been set at $1 million.

According to the arrest warrant, Hammer “knowingly caused great bodily harm and permanent disability to a child under the age of 13 years, in that she held the child’s head high in the air and threw him to a wooden floor causing brain damage.”

The warrant stems from an investigation that started on the afternoon of February 18th in Vandalia, after the baby was transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries to the child, the Vandalia Police Department activated the Child Death Investigation Task Force.

It was the investigation by the Task Force, Vandalia police and Fayette County Sheriff’s Office that led to the arrest warrant being issued.
