IUKA — Jack H. Foraker, Sr., 95 of Iuka, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 10, 1921 in Peoria, son of Clarence W. Foraker and Laura M. (Hopple) Foraker. He married Wanda Joan Meeks on May 7, 1946 and they later divorced.
He is survived by two sons, Jack H. Foraker, Jr. and wife Mary of Shattuc and Jonathan Foraker and wife Cheryl of Florida; two daughters, Laura Fields of Shattuc and Heidi Pomeroy and husband Ferrin of Iuka; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Peggy Elaine Foraker and Wanda Lavonne Foraker; a granddaughter, Ashley Rae Ellis; three brothers; and two sisters.
Jack served in the U.S. Army in the battlefields of Europe during WWII. He received three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a devout Christian and attended the Iuka United Methodist Church. He was a laborer until retirement. Jack was a gifted artist, he enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and Disabled American Veteran and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, which is assisting the family with arrangements.
