JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Jefferson County couple is in the Jefferson County Jail on cannabis related charges, after sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant Monday night.

Sheriff’ Travis Allen says deputies knocked on the door of the residence in the 7500 block of N IL hwy 148 and when it opened they could smell a strong order of marijuana.

A subject in the house admitted to having marijuana and showed some of it to the deputies who then secured the residence and contacted the Jefferson County States Attorney’s office to obtain a search warrant. The search warrant was completed and signed by honorable Judge Crisel.

When Deputies executed the search warrant they seized roughly 950 grams of cannabis, many drug paraphernalia items, and about $3,878 in cash.

Deputies arrested 34-year-old Anthony Reed and 28-year-old Courtney Rider on charges of manufacturing with the intent to deliver between 500-2,000 grams of cannabis. Bail remains to be set.

The Department of Children and Family Services also has an active investigation into the home because two young children who were in the house.
