SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois treasurer’s office will have a weeklong online auction of unclaimed items, including an O.J. Simpson football trading card, a $1,000 bill with the face of Grover Cleveland, and gold Krugerrands.

They are among 12,600 items worth $57,000 up for grabs in the auction that begins Monday and runs through April 1.

The unclaimed property was turned over to the state treasurer’s office after sitting untouched in safe-deposit boxes or storage units for five years. Treasury Department spokesman Greg Rivara says in each case, companies such as banks, insurance companies and brokerage firms could not track down the property owners.

In a statement, Treasurer Michael Frerichs said his office considers auctions only after the items have been unclaimed for 10 years, and to make room for incoming items.
