BENTON — A 45-year-old Mt. Vernon woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on a one-count federal indictment for conspiracy to sell cocaine.

Tammy Whitton previously pleaded guilty to the superceding indictment charging conspiracy to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine.

She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by 8 years parole and a fine of $300,000.

Authorities say the offense occurred between October of 2014 and July of 2015 in both Williamson and Jackson Counties.

During the investigation, it was determined Whitton sold crack cocaine to confidential sources working for law enforcement.

Three co-defendants have pleaded guilty to their roles while one has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial.
