CHICAGO (AP) — A man who was awarded $10 million by the city of Chicago in 2013 after spending 25 years in prison for a double murder he didn’t commit is charged with aggravated battery.

The Chicago Tribune reports 50-year-old Eric Caine is held without bond after being arrested Sunday at his Riverside home. It wasn’t immediately known if Caine has legal representation.

Police say they responded to reports of a disturbance at Caine’s home and found two men battered and bleeding outside the residence. The men told police Caine attacked them after “words were exchanged.”

Police say the men were treated for their injuries at a hospital.

Caine’s conviction in the 1986 slayings of Vincent and Rafaela Sanchez was largely based on a confession made after he was physically abused by Chicago detectives.
